9.2 AMD64 and 2.6 kernel trouble

I am trying to put a 2.6 kernel on my Mandrake 9.2 AMD, and I have problems witrh the initrd failing to mount any of my partitions :-(

I downloaded the kernel, necessary mod utils, mkinitrd etc from the Cooker distribution. I have tried forcing modules onto the initrd.

But I start getting error 6 when trying to mount my root fs as reiserfs (even if the reiserfs module has been loaded), and it keeps failing for a few more mounts before halting. Somehow it feels like devfs isn't working, as the raidautoload says that /dev/md does not exists (but I have a load confirmation a few lines above).

Any help is welcome.
