What happened to all my posts?

I've been a member here since 2003 and I ocasinaly ask questions (I'm hardly prolific though) I stoped comming for a few months (and had to format my laptop in the intervening months) and now I come back all my posts seem to have disapeared. If you look at the bar on the left (or even click on my user profile) you'll see my number of posts has droped below 10, making me look like a noob again. The super weird thing here is that the first thread I ever started, 5 years ago when I realy was a complete noob is still here.

Its not realy important, but I'm perplexed.

Do you have any additional information? We don't delete posts here at LQ and you do have one post from 2003 that I see.

I hope this isn't a thread hijack, but I've just noticed that my post count has gone down by one - I remember when I reached 666 posts a day or two ago because it creeped me out a bit, but as of writing, I'm on 665 (which will have changed by the time I post this, I presume). As royce2020 mentioned, it's not a big deal, but I thought I'd mention it nevertheless

Hey, this can sound really strange but I have had the same (exactly the same) issue as pwc101! One or two days ago I reached 666 and I was a little upset, too. Later I saw the count gone down to 665. No kiddin' and I did not smoke nothing illegal! Maybe a collective hallucination?

Thanks for the feedback. If posts were disappearing, it would be a big deal to us. We consider LQ an archive and that aspect is extremely important. I'll look into the issue, but any additional information that can be provided may prove helpful. Thanks.

pwc101/colucix - It's possible that thread you posted to was moved to General or was deleted, that would affect your count in a non-sinister way.....

having said that, I did glance at a members profile a few days ago and saw that their count was 6 but there were only 5 actual posts to their name. It was late and I was tired so I thought nothing of it .

Red face

Hi all. I'd like to point out that I'm an idiot.

The problem was the laptop formatting: after coming to LQ for the first time after the format, I put in the user name and pass word that I use for just about everything (bad security I know, but all the real important stuff has rotating gerearated passwords) and it let me in. The problem here is that when I first started here I forgot my password, and I just made a new account that I proceeded to use for the next few years. The account I'm using now is the old one that I originally forgot the password to , but the one that has all my posts is a different account.

/egg_on_face

Sorry about stiring up trouble, making people think there was a thread hijack or deleted posts.
I'll just hide over here until the rock throwing stops.

maybe Jeremy can merge the users?

creating a new user account for LQ isn't something that is smiled apon here- please use the "I forgot my password" link in future. Also, if you are sick of your name, you can ask Jeremy (with a good reason) and change the name- please don't make a new account.

(more as a commentary for other users reading this and contemplating making a new user account, than rock throwing. )

It's not so much that I forgot my password, but more that I forgot my username (and which email I'd used to sign up with), and there was a failry sizable section of time between first signing up and posting again (mainly I just fereted about in the achives, as aposed to asking new questions).

I'd like to take this oportunity to ask the powers that be (Jeremy) to merge my two accounts, my other account is RoyceH
