I notice that there's a comma in the URL, could this have something to do with it?

The url works, so I assume you mean that the comma stops the LQ SW from making it a link.

I had thought that all you needed was "http://"

Let's try:
http://something.what.com/more,stuff
(comma ok there....)

This subset of the URL renders as a link....

Do you suppose that the problem could be simply the length of the url?

I'll have to look at the regex code to see why it's not automatically creating the link, but in the mean time you can use the url tag manually if needed.
