place for systems in HCL?

I was just wondering if there could be a complete proprietary systems in the hcl? I have my first system I ever bought and not built, and rather then look for the parts piece by piece in the hcl why not a system section?

This has actually be asked before, you should try searching to find out why we don't think its a good idea to have "Full Systems" in the HCL at this time..

Well to state again several reasons I believe this would not be a very feasible category is for the following main reasons I can think of:

1. Pre-built systems from manufacturer's can include many different parts.
2. Systems with the same model numbers but different parts would only confuse most members performing searches on their model number.
3. Our current setup should not include multiple model numbers that could only be different by one hardware part.
4. It would be more work on our part to investigate each system submitted, to make sure they have the correct hardware listed with the matching model and that is not already listed.
5. I don't see the advantage of having multiple entries cause two models from one manufacturer have different hard drive or video card that differentiates the two systems.
6. Most of the parts in one system submitted could have every part already listed individually in each of the other categories..

I could probably go on and on but felt those would be the main factors in why it would not work at this time to have pre-built systems category for the HCL.

Ok, I understand your point. What about a general system place then. Like me I am stuck with a gateway my wife payed a grand for. So there could be a place in the hcl for known parts gateway, compaq, etc uses. Like the mobo, video etc.... This would not have to be tailored to a specific system, the resource would just be right there for the people who use these sorta systems. I could search the hcl as it is but if there where a gateway section I could find everything I would need right there.

Just an idea......

Again, even a General type area would make search results a headache from my standpoint with duplicte entries, duplicate hardware, etc. Managing such entries would be such a nightmare on the backend since all submissions are manually reviewed for errors, etc.
