Open ID registration not working ?

When I click the OpenID Convert link from the LQ Wiki "My preferences" page, I get a page with a single text box, empty apart from a couple of red <> characters and an OK button next to this.

I tried entering various things into the text box (Wiki ID, nickname etc) but errors result when I hit the OK button.

How should this work?

Do you have an Open ID? If not, you can't convert your regular ID to your Open ID.

If you do have an OpenID, simply type it into the box and your account will be converted.
