Austintx, I do like the hardware idea maybe a best laptop for Linux category as well. It would have to be many polls one for each and maybe more for laptop classes plus whats the limit on choices for a single poll? I don't think consumer reports will make suggestions on Linux outside of Android and such anytime soon and I did love the "Open Source Hardware Product of the Year," learned a lot including don't be a fanboy except for Linux of course.
I think it would be nice to see a breakdown by geographic area. Im interested in seeing who uses what and where it is more prevalent.
Especially when it comes to servers. Slackware is always the #1 server distro, but here in Michigan i have never, in my 18 years as a contractor and sysadmin seen a slackware server in Michigan. Only Red Hat, Solaris, Debian, Centos, SL,.. and a few others. Never Slackware though.
Interesting no? To see geographic preferences of different categories?
While we run an annual set of polls called the Members Choice Awards, I thought it might be fun to run some semi-official polls periodically throughout the year. Unlike the MCA's these polls will have no set end date and you can see the results real-time. First up, what was your first Linux distribution? This thread can be used to suggest new topics for a future poll. We don't have any set frequency at this point; we'll likely base that on the popularity of the first few polls. Thanks for the feedback.

Poll Suggestions:
Which is the most popular Linux distro?
It's huge, I know, but it will provide incredible research material.
Then: Which is the most popular Linux distro desktop environment?
Those of us in Facebook Group Admin (co-admin etc) see people from the planet joining every day. I co-admin Linux Mint Members and am a member of numerous other Linux OS groups. I have at least 3 different Linux OSes on my machines. Not exclusively Mint, or Feather, or LXLE, or Linux Lite ... the group admins will be thrilled as to find the countries from which their members have joined. We are indeed a Global League of Nations of Linux Mint Users (a global user group) of nearing 17,000 members, the majority being in the past year alone.
Distribution: Debian, Red Hat, Slackware, Fedora, Ubuntu

VHS2DVD,
Server Distribution of the Year, Desktop Distribution of the Year and Mobile Distribution of the Year are all in the yearly Members Choice Award Polls.
My suggestion for a poll: What Window Manager(s) are you using? (a multiple-choice questions -- Gnome2, Gnome3, KDE, Enlightenment, xfce, Fluxbox, etc.), followed by Which Window Manager do you like most? (single choice question).

Should be split into two questions:
1. What distros are you currently using
2. Which distro do you prefer
Because, personally I prefer Gentoo, but in my previous workplace I had to admin a mix of Ubuntu + CentOS + RHEL + OEL machines.

Window Manager of the Year and Desktop Environment of the Year are also yearly Members Choice Award Polls.
Are you trying to incite riots on the streets? LOL

These have been taboo topics for quite some time, unless the intent is to wreck havoc on the peace and quite of the local pub.
Proof: Walk in, raise your hand high and shout "---" is the number one and all time best "..." because it is better than all the others combined (while keeping a big smile on your face) and let the mayhem begin.
And yeah - why do you use Linux?
.. do you leave your computer(s) connected to the Net when
.. using it/them for non-net use?
