2008 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Award Categories

Below are the proposed categories for the 2008 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards. I'll allow a couple days for suggestions on additions and modifications. At that time I will post the polls, which will be closed for about a day to allow for suggestions for additions to the nominees. From there the polls will open.

How about "Package Format of the Year" (or other suitable wording) -- including: .deb, .rpm, .tar.gz, etc.

I like separate categories for "Desktop Environment of the Year" & "Window Manager of the Year", but how will you distinguish between them? -- where is the dividing line?

I think only one day for feedback on the nominees is too short.

KDE and Gnome, for example, are desktop environments - hey come with all bells and whistles built in
Fluxbox and XFCE are window managers, you have to build your own bells and whistles

Why not add a category for "Most Helpful LQ Member?"

I can think of a few................

We have no plans to add package manager or any polls related to LQ itself. Desktop Environment and Window Manager have always been separate, and the delineation between the two is quite distinct. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming. I'll probably keep this thread open for one more day, but keep in mind that after 8 years the categories are fairly well defined, so the needed changes on a year-to-year basis are relatively minimum.

Actually XFce is considered a desktop environment, not window manager.

Glad to see Backup application has been added to the list.
