Just getting Bill's claws out of my back has been cool enough for me

i would have to say installing slackware 9 about four months ago as a slackware/win2k dual-boot.
I havent rebooted into windows since the install was completed....no wait. I had a fluxbox problem that went away after i rebooted (for some reason).
Still trying to figure out the cd r/w stuff.

being able to put a DVD in my dvdrom and a blank cd in my burner and with a click
it will: rip, encode,make iso, and burn to the cd.

I was pretty proud of my self. So I did a kernel compile.....................now I'm humbled.

my server was headless but my girlfriend wont let me use her computer as much as i'd like to log into the server. my server sits in her dorm room in the living room area.

which leads me to the coolest thing i've done with linux:

1. running DNS (the primary DNS for both of those is ns.gigahurts.org)
2. running postfix+imap+horde-imp+mysql for email and webmail (oh so nice)

3. web hosting (free) (sort of, the guys i host dont really use it much)

b) http://stuart.gigahurts.net using VirtualHost in apache of course

4. Steam Counter-Strike server (it's off now but's it's on there and i've used it)

5. running it all on a p2 450 without X

i might wipe it all out and install Gentoo on it and start over though. all of those things i have running on it are fairly easy to setup a second or third time.

People look a bit sad as soon as I start with this kind of things.... You are lucky. None of my friends care in the least about computers

The coolest thing I've done, is to install gentoo from stage 1 trough the net (I mean that I did not downloaded the 2 cd set with precompiled packages) and 2 weeks later I had it running with kde, video, sound, cdrecording and everything.

I would have to say that this is the coolest thing I've done with linux yet. It's an mp3 player that sits in my living room. I interface with it through a remote conrole, and a little LCD panel. I have access to my mp3's over a network mount. After I made this mp3 player, HP came with a similar product, that cost about $500.00.

Sorry for getting off the subject, but I saw your location aeruzcar. I am from Santiago Chile too, and I've lived in the U.S all my life. How's the linux comunity out their?

1. running a fully-functional LAMP on my Zaurus. a webserver that's always there when you need it

2. installing debian for the first time. 5th time's a charm...

3. installing knoppix on my girlfriends's laptop: no, no internet explorer here....

4. browsing the net from behind a firewall with cygwin, ssh, and X forwarding

Dude that is nice!.. Hey one question, the LCD screen is on top of another tower?... I see that the MP3 box is no where to be found on the second photo.

The MP3 Box is is on the first picture. The LCD screen in the tower was how it looked when I was writing the software to drive it. It's been working for about a year now with out any_problems. I took it down for two days this week for the for some upgrades like enableing pause, and better playlist support, I'll be putting that next revision on the web in a few weeks. I would *really like to enable support for mysql, instead of dealing with directory acess, but I haven't had much time, and it would requier a rewrite.

Mastering the stuff that had me totally stumped one year ago, thanks mostly to an obsessive nature and these forums.

Last year I couldn't use cfdisk or install Slackware w/out help, and it took hours and hours at an Install-Fest to get my CD burner to work. I didn't know how to get around with commandline, I was only familiar with GUIs. I couldn't figure out how to install software in Slack at all or compile software from source. I gave up after many months and went back to Mandrake and Knoppix.

Now I've installed Slack 9.1 and have learned how to compile from source and install packages, how to move around in a terminal, how to get my printer working (and that was a HUGE problem due to a conflict between Cups and LPRng), how to rip and burn music, install a firewall, add users, all that stuff...

My biggest accomplishment was just now, installing Maelstrom and a library it depended on for my husband.

Slackware has a "feel" about it that no other distro can match, and I've tried a lot of them!

Not too shabby for an ol' lady. I feel so proud, as I pull a muscle patting myself on the back ;-)
