why I cannot copy to a usb hard drive (640 gb)? Mssg Cannot create folder

I'm trying to copy some files to a external usb hard drive (640 gb) but it's giving a error message " cannot create folder. I tried to change permissions of the drive which is "view only" but again a message "cannot change permissions of protocol devices.
How to overcome this?

sure sounds like a permissions issue.
Did you manually mount the drive?
What do you type when you tried to changed the permissions?
Do a ls -l of the USB drive and share the output here.
We'll get ya going!
