I'm very happy to have found this community (by searching for information when I couldn't find the Debian User Forums). I switched my personal systems from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to Debian lenny last week. I got registered on the Debian User Forums just before they were closed down due to the apparent compromise of the forum software -- on my birthday, of all things!
With only six months' experience I'm relatively new to Linux, but I have jumped in with both feet. I use Linux at home and at work, where I admin an Active Directory production network.
I've had a look-see at the way this site is organized, I like what I am seeing. LQ looks like a terrific place to find both variety and depth. I look forward to getting acquainted.
Let me ask you for an opinion, if I may, about where to post some questions about the GNOME desktop functionlality under Debian Lenny.
I see that there's a desktop forum and a Debian forum. I think that the issues I'm seeing are specific to the distro in this case, but I'm not sure. Since you're obviously a long-timer here, I'd like to know which you think would be better.
The questions are very specific, reasonably well-researched questions about:
1. keyboard shortcuts (Honestly, not the usual question about how to assign them.)
2. a modular bay drive in a laptop that always requires root privs for mounting because it's not being recognized as removable
3. a popup that tells me that my platform is not supported by specific GNOME apps (like network-manager)
4. an interesting graphical corruption that occurs occasionally on applications being used via ssh -X
I have never seen these issues on another distro, and I've tried GNOME versions of MEPIS / Ubuntu / Mint.
What say you desktop forum or Debian forum?
Forgive me if I shouldn't pester you with this, and thanks.

Gnome is the default desktop in Debian so most Debian users would have no trouble answering your questions about Gnome usage in Debian. I suggest you use the Debian forum.
