Smile New to the boards...student Linux user

Well, figured I could post a little blurb about myself as I plan on hanging around a while. I've actually have been a lurker for quite some time, just now deciding to become a bit more active.

Anyway, I am an undergraduate computer science student with quite an interest in Linux/UNIX and operating systems in general. At the moment the focus of my study has been low-level device interaction. I had taken a systems programming course that gave me some basics as well as introducing me to x86 assembly programming. Prior to that I had only been introduced to a MIPS processor. I mention this because my goal is to eventually become a true Linux 'kernel hacker'. For those that don't know; I don't mean gaining unauthorized access to a computer, I mean working the code under that hood of Linux.

It is quite an undertaking. At this point Linux is large enough that I spend my time doing mostly just that: reading.

As for Linux specifically, I have been using different distributions for about the past 2 years. However, in this past six months I have really started to get serious with my studies, and in return have been exclusively running Linux on my computer. (Goodbye, Windows...). Anyway, I realize not everyone here is a programmer and/or computer science student, but obviously everyone here is a Linux user. So my hope is to become a much better Linux user and hopefully contribute to the community in the process.

Sorry for the long introduction. And for those that care, here is my current setup:

sda1: windows xp (just in case I need it)
sda2: Slackware 12 (just getting into Slackware)
sda7: openSUSE 10.3 (ok, but I am having issues)
sda8: Fedora Core 7 (going to install this sometime soon)
