mandatory introduction!

Hi all,

new to damnsmalllinux, but have used Ubuntu for about a year. I'd appreciate any help regarding partitions and installation of DSL!

computer: hp pavilion ze4400 laptop
memory 186MB
HD 40GB
current distribution is ubuntu 6.10

Computer is agonizingly slow, the more graphics the worse it gets. firefox crashes at the drop of a hat, and it will freeze if there is more than one program/window open. So, I need a smaller OS. Would DSL be a good option for my computer? Or DSL-N, or Xubuntu? I don't need much, just a good word program, and good audio/video software, and fast internet browsing.

thanks

I haven't personally had any experience with the smaller distros but have heard great things about DSL and Puppy. One of the main things is to stay away from are the fat programs. Another option may be to upgrade your memory to at least 256 meg if your bios will let you.
