Hello, Norm here, a f-n-g to this sort of thing....noob I think y'all call it, but a vet in systems install/service world, been at it since 1978! Basically I'm just an old helicopter mechanic who somehow fell into computer systems repair, completely self taught, no fancy certs or degrees here...we had no such fancy-fangled tools back then, like this here web site, hec, we had no webs back then!
Started my career with CDC, Control Data Corp... govt systems mostly.
Went on to other jobs as the industry "micro-ized" its self... IBM systems, DEC, SUN Micro, mid range systems, then eventually PCs.. wow! what a ride, seeing all this amazing tech come of age.
Well anyhow, ya' gotta watch us old timers we kinda wordy if let loose, so hello and see yall' around the bits and chips!
There's quite a few old 'uns here, I've read that some even punched cards!
You say that like it's a bad thing I used to do paper tape on one of these, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletype_Model_33And for the punch cards it was a Raytheon. Didn't find one right away, but I saw this model and two thoughts which came to mind were that this looks identical to the one I used, except it had a card reader, and also that this user manual is AMAZING! http://archive.computerhistory.org/r...-05-01-acc.pdf so simple, yet complete.
I too had a chance to punch cards and do paper tapes when I was a student and beginning engineer.
Funny time. I was so young. I was very proud when oldies gave me a reel (bobbin) with magnetic tape and said "It's your".
Best regards and many successes,
chereda

I'm a member of that club. You made damn sure you got your coding right before you sent those cards away to the guys who fed them in to the mainframe. If not, you got the cards back a few hours later with a syntax error marked on one card which you had to modify and then send all the cards in again.
