Introduction
I'm new to Linux. Have been using computers for 25 years. My first computer was an Apple II with 48k ram. The documentation that came with the machine was outstanding and gave me a good understanding of what goes on under the hood. At work I was involved with the first PC's being installed. From there went on to setting up and maintaining Novell networks. Moved on to running a major department and became isolated from the day to day computer operations. With the advent of Microsoft Windows, and Windows XP in particular, all computer operations are hidden behind the GUI(and quite well I might add). Bill Gates loves his wizards. There must be something wrong with me. Those wonderful wizards never seem to do the job they were intended to. The wonderful windows help and documentation system, or lack thereof, is another story. There is a well known clothing retailer in my area(Long Island, NY)whose motto is "An educated consumer is our best customer". Linux is the choice of the educated consumer.
I'am glad to be back to a system that actually has useful help and documentation and I can get under the hood and get my hands dirty. If anything, Linux suffers from the opposite of Windows, too much documentation. I'm sure that the real problem right now is ME. I'm still riding the learning curve as a newbie.
