Hi All, An Aussie here who is taking linux now seriously

Hi All,

I am from Australia and have finally decided to take linux seriously. as it has started to show some promise of being a main os for the common person.

I have been touching linux distros ever since red hat 3.0, and mandriva 7. I have been trying out linux every new version and i feel Now it is where i take it seriously.

I have found that the new way of installing is a lot easier than the earlier versions which is nice, also nice to see gfx card manufacturers to support linux.

I have found a few issues but with time i bet it will be solved.

I intend to get a sata dvd drive and switch completely to sata and play with debian to learn how to do linux and learn some more commands instead of hammering my way thru with half truths.

Well cya around

Easy

Hi and hello (and welcome)

Nice to hear you like Linux. It's true that the installers (among other stuff) have become more non-techie-user-friendly during the years, but then again, I'm glad there still are those (more or less) "old-style" installation programs that let you do much much more than any "easy" graphical installer allows; the best by far is that of Slackware's. Ubuntu is the other end, it lets you import stuff like bookmarks and emails from existing Windows programs when you're installing it, and actually lets you use the OS (as a live-cd) before installing. Nevertheless, no matter how easy or shiny they get, I'll always be missing (and at times have to use ) those installations that were used when RH was young...
