Hello - semi-new full-time Linux user

Hi everyone,

I've been using Linux for the past 3 or 4 years, but only in a pseudo-server/workstation setting. Mainly it was my "toy OS" on a spare computer that I never really did much with except play a few games, fiddle with Samba, and try to keep up and running after each new RPM upgrade.

But now I've finally eliminated Microsoft Windows from my home life, suffering with it only while at work.

Any ways, now I'm using Mandrake 9.1 on my main "power" computer at home:
AMD Athlon 1.33 GHz
GeForce FX5600
MSI KT7 Turbo motherboard with onboard AC97 sound and Realtek 10/100 ethernet
USB Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer
Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital (joystick)

I also have an older 400 MHz Pentium II computer running Mandrake 8.2 serving as my (currently non-functioning) webserver and samba file sharing computer.

So I've been Linux for quite some time, but I still don't know all that much about it. Just enough to compile stuff incorrectly and screw everything up.

Feel free to ask me a question if you're a complete newb and want to know how to solve a problem you're having, but don't expect me to know it all.

Hello cavemanf16,

I know that it has been quite some time since you made your introduction post here on linuxquestions.org. So I was curious how things have been now that you have had some time since you made your departure from Windows.

What has been your biggest problem in dealing with linux vice miscrosft? Now that you have been using linux full time, how much of a difference has it made in your comfort level with linux?
