ChiSaw, you have come to the right place (Linux): oodles of compilers, code editors, scripting languages, engineering graphics (well, maybe not oodles -- I use gnuplot), as well as a Matlab-like program, plus all of the usual office utilities. Also, be sure to check out the 'units' program, which is the best units conversion program I have encountered. Have fun!
