Wireless DHCP

Well, I've got my wireless card working finally (through ndiswrapper). And i can get it to scan and pick up networks. However, it automatically grabs the strongest signal, but wont pull an IP. The router is right next to it, has DHCP turned on, but I cant get it to pull an IP address. Does anyone have any suggestions? There don't seem to be enough programs/tutorials on how to use linux with wifi out there...

the two areas, wifi and dhcp really have nothing in common. They're operating at totally different OSI layers. if your WIFI device can connect to the netowrk via your AP, then that's the wifi part over with. next comes DHCP. obviosuly you could be subnetting the wifi devices to a different range than dhcp server is listening, but that's as close to a connection as you're going to get. check your wifi logs, and check your dhcp server logs.

What distro are you using?? You should get an IP if you do something along the lines of:

create a file "/etc/hostname.eth0" this is assuming the wireless card is recognized as eth0, if it's seen as wi0 then "/etc/hostname.wi0" and insert simple "dhcp" (less the quotes) into the file...

This worked for me on OpenBSD and also on Slackware...

In order to better help with the problem, you should be defining your distro, or at least put your ditro in your profile..
