wireless configuration "SET failed on device"

Hello,

I'm trying to connect to a wireless network using a Thinkpad T42 with built in wireless card Intel 2100. I successfully installed the ipw2100 module. I have been trying to associate it with the network essid "NETGEAR", which uses WEP encryption. Here is the output of iwconfig:

eth3 unassociated ESSID:"NETGEAR" Nickname:"ipw2100"
Mode:Managed Channel=0 Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate=0 kb/s Tx-Power:16 dBm
Retry min limit:7 RTS thrff Fragment thrff
Encryption keyff
Power Managementff
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

When I try
# iwconfig eth3 key [the key]

I get:

Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device eth3 ; Operation not supported.

iwlist eth3 scan gets:

eth3 Scan completed :

Extra: Last beacon: 99ms ago

Thank you for any advice you can give!

Nevermind, I sorted it.

I modified /etc/network/interfaces, which still had some entries from when the hard disc lived in a different computer.

Thanks anyway!
