Wireless Card for Fedora 2: what should I buy

I've installed Redhat 8, 9, gentoo, and now Fedora and one thing has always been the same:

I can't get the WMP11 to work. I know, there's hundreds of threads, ndiswrapper, this fix, that fix...

I just don't feel like dealing with it...

I connect wirelessly to a Linksys router and would like my Fedora machine to connect to the internet, and ideally to my Windows network. But I'll settle for just internet right now.

If I go to the store, or shop the net, what do I buy (make, model)? I just want to plug it in and go. Or perhaps, even better, a usb wireless that I can just stick in the back of my machine and Fedora will know what to do with it? I guess I'm looking for a card that has native Linux drivers/support.

Please just list models that you know will work, if any, under this scenario. I'm just ready to go spend the money. I'll use the WMP11 in my next Windows machine...

Thanks.

WB

I too would like to know which Wireless NIC to buy that is linux friendly - the HCL lists by maker so I have to go through each maker - then cross reference the product number - doesn't give me the whole picture.

Anyone know a wireless NIC that has open linux drivers?

Wink

Buy an Orinoco PCMCIA Card. It's 200% compatible. By the way, it is the most compatible PCMCIA Card for Linux.

I'm running FC2 and have an MN-520 and STILL cant get it to work. It sees it as the MN-520 initially then for some reason it changes to the Orinoco_CS. I tried add the line to the config file and still havent had any success working so far.

4x4:
orinoco_cs is the driver, and it will work quite nicely with Prism chipset cards like the MN-520. Use the FC network configuration tool to set up the wireless and network parameters and you should be in business.

sk8:
Which card? List out the loaded modules to see if you have the right one - lsmod is the command.

Hi,
Fedora Core 2 detected my Dlink card DWL-520 as an ethernet card (and not a wireless device) when I installed the operating system.
Secondly, it says "no such device" whenever I try to do
<command> <wireless device name>
Thirdly, the following is the message from dmesg (please pay ATTENTIOn to the driver compaining hardware unavailable):
Basically, how do I make a new device??

orinoco.c 0.13e (David Gibson <hermes@gibson.dropbear.id.au> and others)

Sorry, sk8ercool2001, I'm not much of an expert on PCI adapters.

If you want 802.11g get something with a prism54 chipset. Dead easy to setup, and everything is supported except WPA. Cool

Can someone tell me what card to use with Linuxant? I'm looking for the easiest possible scenario, and I don't mind paying the $20.00 just to circumvent any potential issues...

Thank you!
