Question What if I don't know the WEP key?

I'm somewhat of a new user to linux, but I've learned quite a bit. My problem is, I'm trying to connect to a wireless network at my University. They have instructions for using Windows to connect to the wireless network, but not linux.
In said instructions, when it comes to putting in the WEP encryption key, it says to tick the box marked "The key is provided for me automatically"
So, when I try to set up the network on linux, I get up to the point where I need to give it the encryption key, but I can't. I don't know it. And I can't find anyone who does. So, is there any way to emulate this windows option in linux? Can I tell my machine that the network will provide the WEP key for me? If so, how???

This may be a little far fetched, but you could try runnig your windows wlan monitor in wine......
didnt work for me but i'm sure it will work for someone.
