Talking Found someone snooping around on my WLAN now what?

I want payback!!!!!!! but I am kinda a . I used a program to find out the MAC of the person I would like to know who it is and where they live relative to me (if there's a program that can do that). If a program cannot do such a thing I would want to know how to acess there network because windows cannot detect it but the program can. I prefer to do this on windows using programs made by others, maybe I can see a picture of the person in a shared directory and might tell them to stop eating 30KBPS upload from me!

It sounds like you could use a good heaping portion of WLAN security advice. Have you considered posting this in the Wireless forum? It will likely get more knowledgable WiFi eyeballs on it.

Basics of WLAN security:
Don't broadcast SSID
Only allow listed MAC addresses to associate
Use some form of encryption for your traffic, either an IPSec tunnel, some form of SSL/SSH tunneling, or WEP as a last resort
If you use WEP, change your keys regularly (and make sure you use the maximum length secret)

No there is no program which can do this - find out your wlans range - that will tell you how far away they can be.

So let me get this straight: you are running an insecure network, someone has happenend upon it and you now want them to be punished? Secure your network - while you are making plans for your unprovoked assault, the world+dog is on your network probably roaming through your files as we speak/type.

Also read the Rules esp. this part: Posts containing information about cracking.

You also posted a question about how to do this from Windows in a Linux forum.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

The 2 threads will be merged.

Please be aware that asking for help and advice on cracking other computer systems is against our rules:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

Please only respond to this thread if it is to give advice on hardening the network or this thread will be closed.
