send/receive files from one laptop to another using ftp HELP

Hey guys, i've been looking over the internet and cannot find an easy guide or any specific info about transferring files between two laptops. I have currently installed the ftp packets, but cannot get to transfer anything between them. Can anyone guide me in the right way?? THANX in advance.

You need to provide more info first. Which distro are you using? Also, what is the network configuration, i.e., both laptops connected on your internal network?

im a newbie, so im not sure which distro i am using. I dont think i have a network established yet, how do you do that?? the only thing i can do so far, is ftp to my ipadress from each laptop, but i dont know wat to do after that. I want to be able to send a file from one laptop and receive it in the other one using ubuntu. Thanx for ur help!
