Scientific Linux and Intel Wireless

I am relatively new to Lniux and have just relocated to Fermilab. I am now using Scientific Linux 5.0 and the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection adapter. I used to use a wired internet connection and had no problems. I need to use wireless here at Fermilab though. I can only access the internet when I am in Windows and I need to get it working for Linux.

I tried using Intel's Linux Drivers and could not figure them out. So if anyone could help with that it would be great but I am also trying to use ndis wrapper but when I use the make command I get the following error

Can't find kernel build files in /lib/modules/2.6.18-8.1.3.el5xen/build; give the path to kernel build directory with
KBUILD=<path> argument to make

I have read other posts on this but they all refer to other distrobutions and to techniques I am unfamiliar with so if anyone could help me with that that would also be great.

I dont really care which method I use I just need to get my wireless up and running. I am more familiar wiht using make and such while I did not understand the Intel instructions refering to hotplug and udev and several other things.

Thanks!

EDIT:

I also need to know how to do this:

"ipw3945d is needed to control the ipw3945 wireless card kernel-module-ipw3945 is needed because this driver is not in the standard kernel. Note that the installer does NOT know how to enable the 3945 wireless. You will have to add the starting of the /sbin/ipw3945d in your startup scripts."

I found this at:

https://www.scientificlinux.org/dist...enote.5.0.i386

and I downloaded all teh rpms so I am going to try that.

The error you're getting in the "make" step means that you don't have one of the things needed for compiling from source - kernel source or headers.

You can install RPMs (pre-compiled binaries for your distribution), just make sure you get ones matching your kernel. The ones listed in your link match the kernel version shown in the make error, so you should be all set.

If you upgrade the kernel down the road, you'll need to also get upgraded 3945 modules.

The make error? You shouldn't be trying to compile from source if you downloaded and successfully installed the RPMs you linked above.

Please clarify: which "same error" and did you download and install without any error messages the linked RPMs for your distro?
