rtl8187 module not loading at startup

I have a wireless device that has the rtl8187 chip. I've managed to make it work. However I am having problems getting it to load at startup.

To get it to work I have to "rmmod rtl8187" and then modprobe it again. It seems to be loaded at startup but for some reason it doesn't work. This is the error I found in the logs:

Quote:
2008-10-23 16:09:07 rtl8187 Cannot register device
2008-10-23 16:09:07 rtl8187 probe of 2-9:1.0 failed with error -12
2008-10-23 16:09:07 usbcore registered new interface driver rtl8187
I've tried to search around to see what it means. But I can't find any help.

Anybody have any idea what this could mean. I use Arch Linux with KDEmod4.1

Hi,

Can somebody tell me how to make a quick script that runs when kde starts up.

What I need is to have a script automatically run the following commands:

rmmod rtl8187
modprobe rtl8187

Of course these commands needed to be run as root or sudo.

Hi,

I've written a simple script to startup my wireless driver. It essentially contains the following 2 commands:

rmmod rtl8187
modprobe rtl8187

I've tried to set things up so that this script is run on startup. However it refuses to run since you need to be "superuser" or sudo to run the above mentioned commands. How can I make the arrangments so that, the script is run as a superuser?

You haven't mentioned what distro - they (may) differ in the init scripts.
rc.local will probably work, but might be "cleaner" to just delay the load (in the initscripts) - or add a "depends on".

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I will try what you suggested. I use Arch Linux with KDE from the chakra-project.
