roaming modes

Is there a term "roaming mode"? What does it mean?
In hostap (file hostap.c), i have found the following:
HFA384X_ROAMING_HOST;
HFA384X_ROAMING_DISABLED;
HFA384X_ROAMING_FIRMWARE;

DISABLED is not a mode in reality, but what's the difference between the other 2?
Thanks
