Problem with obtaining a DHCP Lease on WG311T Card

Today I decided to try and get my Netgear WG311T Wireless card to work under fedora Core 3. Kernel version 2.6.9-1.667 (I believe) I downloaded the MadWifi drivers from sourceforge through cvs. I then followed the instructions I found in the HCL section of this fourm to compile/install the driver. that went fine, however I did get a bunch of warnings during compilation/install saying something like "undefined" I then configured my card with all my settings. That worked including a iwlist scan. I wasn't able to do that on my other wireless card. My only problem now is that the card will not obtain a dhcp lease from the router.

I used 'dhclient ath0' to try to get a lease but it told me no DHCPOFFER was in the persistent db -- sleeping.

I used dhclent instead of dhcpcd because I think fedora/redhat uses dhclient rather than dhcpcd.

By the way I am running fedora 3 on a AMD Athalon @ 900 MHTZ.

Please if anyone has any ideas on how to get this driver to work please let me know.

just got the same card myself and hadn't had time to try it out.
Let me know if you figure anything out. I will keep you posted also.
I am running Mandrake 10.1 but I think our solutions will be close enought (if we find any).

I just started searching the web this is the first link I've come across they may be of some help.

Thanks Charlie
PS my email address is charlescpc@yahoo.com
From what I have read this card might work ok in linux.

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if this will help but I got around this by setting a static IP address. I think you may encounter this problem is you have multiple access points in which case you need to specify which AP you are trying to get the IP lease from.

Regards
Chris

So far I have been able to do the following

1) download the CVS files from sourceforge
2) compiled the driver
3) installed the driver
4) configured the network card with my settings
5) created a network-script file 'ifcfg-ath0'
6) created a file caled 'keys-ath0' /*needed in fedora not sure about mandrake*/

Just got it to work. The reason why I couldn't get a dhcp offer was because i didn't issue the command: iwpriv ath0 authmode 2. When I did that I was able to get online.

I got mine working now too.

My problem was very similiar. It wouldn't get an ip from the router.
I found out to issue dhclient ath0 and that got me a ip and I
was ok from there.

It worked fine for one day and then I couldn;t get it to work.
My router usually works fine, but when Mandrake starts up
It hangs my router up. I have to reset the router to get it to
give me an ip. So, I think I have something still messed up.

I used to be able to go several months without reseting my router.
Oh well, I'll keep playing with it...
Glad you got yours going.....
