prism2-Wlan-ng....Wifi and Linux

I know there is alot of info in this great forum about 802.11b matters.. But I couldn't find something that was a complete anwer to my questions.

I have a netgear 311 802.11b wireless PCI card. I I've come across 2 drivers for client mode operation. Orinoco PCI and wlan-ng. I installed wlan-ng. Which of the tow is the best driver? What are the differences?

I managed to run kismet successfully on it, so I figured it was set-up OK. Then I tried to change my SSID, but I got errors.....
Quote:
[root@psilPC linux-wlan-ng-0.2.0]# iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Function not implemented.
Same things happen when trying to change channel, SSID. What's wrong!?

i think you need to run different commands...
check the readme, you can see it there.
its something like:
Code:
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid=your_ssid authtype=opensystem
if you dont have wep enabled

Use orinoco please. It's much easier to use.

I used orinoco, but when I tried to install kismet and/or airsnort, both packets could not locate wlan-ng. So I installed them. Does kismet works OK with the orinoco driver as well? Did I just configure if the wrong way?
