Unhappy PLEASE HELP? internet configuration wizard and wireless networking?

Hi,

After doing a search I came up with articles that were close, but no cigar.

I successfully installed NDISWrapper and the drivers to my WPC54G network card but can't get the card to activate.

I can see the status using
/sbin/iwconfig wlan0
and can see the wireless networks using
/sbin/iwlist wlan0 scanning

I have (re)installed Fedora Core 4 and updated via yum using http://www.stanton-finley.net/ guide on FC4.

For a guide installing ndiswrapper I used
http://www.micahcarrick.com/v2/content/view/23/2/
using "enablerepo=livna-stable" since that's what the stanton-finley had for their onetime livna installs.

The entire process worked beautifully, but when I go into the gnome internet configuration wizard referenced at the bottom of
http://www.micahcarrick.com/v2/content/view/23/2/
I select "wireless connection", press forward.
"Other Wireless Card" is the only card listed, I select and press "forward".

At this point I get a list of cards to choose from, none of which even remotely match my card.
I've tried several of the cards but when I go into the network manager and try to activate them it says not present.

I've tried adding an option in the /etc/modprobe.conf file to assign ndiswrapper to eth1 but this didn't work either so I removed it.

Are there any easy to understand/impliment guides to finishing this? what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

While waiting for an answer I got further but still don't have it completely resolved.
I got the card working using:
/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 essid 'ESSID'
/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 key restricted XXXXXXXX
/sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up
/sbin/dhclient wlan0
/usr/sbin/ndiswrapper -m
then added "ndiswrapper" to the end of /etc/modprobe.conf

My hope was I wouldn't have to reconfigure everything on restart but I did. and it still doesn't give me any viable options in the network manager or 'network configuration wizard' to permanently set up the card.

Am I going to have to manually configure the thing EVERY time I go to use a wireless? Are there any alternatives besides configuration scripts that keep the keys, etc. in plain readable site?

Thanks for any help.

put that into a file called something like wlan-up.sh, chmod +x it and add it too your bootup scripts.

I tried renaming and moving the script I had set up to /etc/init.d (where some websites say all fedora startup scripts are) and the chmod to +x but no dice.

I did put an icon on the launch panel for executing the script and, with advice from the programming forum here, got it working using sudo with slight modifications to the sodoers file.

Having it execute automatically at startup would be the best but since that doesn't happen this option is ok. Now I'll have to set up a script for when I travel that prompts for essid and key. Guess I'll be hitting the books again Thanks for the response.

Is there a file in /etc/init.d/ called rc.local or something with 'local' in it?
