Nokia 2270 with linux

I'm planning to connect my linux (RedHat 9) to a Cell phone (Nokia 2270) so it can work as a RAS (Remote Access Server). I have found that there are only usb cables on the market. According to some posts on forums, with a serial cable is enough to communicate with the phone, is this true or do I need something else?
Thanks for any answers
