Network Configuration Errors Setting D-Link DWL-650+ Wireless Card

1. I am using Windows 2000 & Red Hat 9.0, kernel version - 2.4.20-6

2. My Red Hat 9.0 installation is working perfectly. I am not very familiar with the terminal commands.

3. I am trying to install my D-Link DW 650+ Wireless network card.

4. In Windows 2000, using DHCP

5. It shows two devices in Network Configuration:
eth1, nick: eth1, type: ethernet
eth1:1, nick: eth1:1, type: Wireless

6. I changed the modules.conf recently and the hardware in network configuration displays:

acx100sta, type: ethernet, eth0
acx100sta, type: ethernet, eth1

7. The DNS settings displays:
hostname: localhost.localdomain

8. The hosts displays:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

9. When I try to activate the first one (eth1) it gives this error:
Cannot activate network device eth1 !
Determining IP information for eth1.... failed.

10. When I try to activate the second one (eth1:1) it gives these errors:

Cannot activate network device eth1:1 !

SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06):
SET failed on device eth1:1; Operation not supported.
Error for wireless request "Set Bit Rate" (8B20):
SET failed on device eth1:1; Invalid Argument
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A):
SET failed on device eth1:1; Invalid argument "s:".

Determining IP information for eth1:1..... SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address failed.

11. I have tried this both before and after trying to disable firewalls using: service iptables stop

12. I have a dhclient installed already. When I run "dhclient eth1" it displays the following final messages after it tries to do DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67:

No DHCPOFFERS recieved.
No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.

13. The ESSID of our network is set to null, so I switched the network configuration to Auto and so now ESSID=""

14. We use a proxy server, its address is 194.xxx.x.xxx, and we arenot using an encrytion based authentication.

I have given you all the information I can think of. Please help me I am a quite new, so can I get exact info. Thanx for your help.

1. Hi, I tried to remove both the hardware and the devices from the network configuration. So I deleted the eht1 and eth1:1, and also deleted from hardware eth0 and eth1.

2. Restarted, and now it takes a lot of time to activate sendmail, finally it booted up.

3. Disabled sendmail using ntsysv

4. Now tried using the internet configuration wizard, I setup a wireless device, selected the acx100sta(eth1), and now the following device is listed:
eth1, nick: eth1, type: Wireless

Hardware list:
acx100sta; type: wireless; device: eth1

DNS:
none

HOST:
127.0.0.1, localhost

5. When I open the device properties here is the list of things displayed:

General
Nick: eth1

Hardware Device
Hardware Device: eth0
Hardware: eth1
Bind to MAC Address 00:08:05:5d:6a:c2 (first it was 00:00:00:00.., then I used probe and got this MAC Address)

Wireless Settings
Mode: Auto
Network Name(SSID): Auto
Channel: 1
Transmit Rate: Auto
Key (use 0x for hex): 0000-0000-0000-0000-0000-0000

6. And now I tried to activate the device it gives the following errors

Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06):
SET failed on device eth1:1; Operation not supported.
Error for wireless request "Set Bit Rate" (8B20):
SET failed on device eth1:1; Invalid Argument

Determining IP information for eth1... failed

7. I tried running "dhclient eth1" it displays the following final messages after it tries to do DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67:

No DHCPOFFERS recieved.
No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.

Please Help me I am lost. Thanx for all your help.
