ndiswrapper works - disconnects after few minutes

I have an SMC2862W Wireless G USB Adapter. It works just fine with ndiswrapper (I am posting this from Linux) however after few minutes of use, it starts dropping packets and eventually completely disconnects and I am even unable to ping the router. It seems to happen randomly. I have been able to stay up as long as a few hours but it will usually disconnect with in 10 minutes. Is their anything in paticular that would cause this? I have tried both static IP and DHCP only to yield the same result. "modprobe -r ndiswrapper" + "modprobe ndiswrapper" fixes the problem. I have tried lower the RTS and Frag thresholds to 1024 which is lower than the default thinking it might improve it a bit. MTU is the default at 1500 and I am using WEP at 128 bits. It works under Windows XP just fine with these settings. I am using Suse 10 with ndiswrapper 1.7. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

The only thing that really comes to mind is that the Windows driver you're using isn't real happy running under ndiswrapper. Are you using the one suggested by the ndiswrapper wiki? You also might have a look in your logs (/var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog) and see if the card/drivers are complaining about anything.

i had this problem once, but since i've done the following my connection hasn't been lost, for no real reason since... it's low tech. when you do
Code:
iwconfig wlan0 key 1232312312kh231234
you may notice that sometimes your essid is actually typed in, and if you are like me, i say "great!" however, you still need to set your essid by doing the old
Code:
iwconfig wlan0 essid nameofessid
where nameofessid is obviously your name of essid.

if i'm wrong i'm wrong, but i haven't had that issue since. later.

hmmm... it seems I might have jumped the gun on this one. I rebooted into windows noticing that it was rather slow. It seems that it may actually be the fault of either my router or ISP. It just happened to be a coincidence that this problem started occuring when I happened to be messing with ndiswrapper in Linux. It continued to occur on windows for a couple of days before it finally went away. Network connection seems fine now on both Windows and Linux. I'll keep what you said in mind though superbnerb, since it is always a posibility that I may get disconnected again. I've noticed it mostly in IRC where a constant connection is required unlike web browsing. I havnt tested it fully yet, but it seems to be resolved now. If it doesn't work out, I'll post back, otherwise go ahead and consider this thread as Resolved for now.
