ok cool, ill try that in a few minutes, im transfering over some files from my other computer to this one at the moment so i can't go on the slackware partition atm.
i was messin around with this other tutorial i found : http://www.jennings.homelinux.net/atmel_old.html
and i change my modules.conf file like it said..
now my computer boots with all this garble on the screen and when i tried the 'cat' command that you suggested it locked up whatever i tried to use to access that area (/proc/bin/usb i think)
if i cant get this workin im either gonna stomp my card or forget linux altogether until someday they build the driver in their kernel so it works when u just install hahah
ok i entered the command into a root terminal
[cat /proc/bus/usb/devices ]
the shell stopped responding (i was using it in KDE)
so then i try accessing the directory
[/proc/bus/usb]
and the file manager stops responding..
i (xkill)killed the file manager and rebooted because i was gettin ready to go out but i'm gonna try it again..maybe if i leave it going for a few more minutes it'll do something..?
on a different note, i saw the following articles on the web which appear to cover the amtel wlan driver installation on mandrake 9 and 9.1
In the above article ( mdk 9.0 ) the author stated that mandrake 9 users would need to recompile the kernel source. I'm going to try reinstalling mandrake 9 fresh, downloading the exact same driver used in the article and doing every step mentioned in the article. I'll get back to you tommorow afternoon on how it works out..
thanks~mike
Yes, I was waiting to see if you'd come back. This guy (jennings) actually owns the device you have, and got it to work on the the same Mandrake version you have, he is your best bet for getting this going, good luck!
Ok, I have been trying to get my wireless to work in slackware for 2 weeks. I tried aka bevis's step by step instructions, but no avail hehe. Everything seems to go ok but it just doesn't work. After the install i don't see the file there anymore too. Arghhhhh if anyone can help me and talk to me on aol instant messager I would very much appreciated it and worship you hehe. My screenname is Ematrixxx. Please help ! hehe.
As you can tell from the sign above, i'm new to linux and trying to get my wirless internet correction to work. Well, I'm not doing so well. I've using Red Hat Linux 9 and am trying to get wusb11 v.2.6 to work! I've looked everywhere, and I was wondering if you could please help.
I have been following you guys on this thread. I have a question for akaBeavis. I also have a WUSB11 Linksys device. How do I identify whether it is version 2.6 or not. What if I'm not, will these instructions still apply? The reason I'm asking this is I am also having a hard time installing this. I'm not on the the linux pc now so I can't give you the error message. I checked my FCC ID and it says PKW-WUSB11 without any v26 in the end. I suppose that's the version 2.1 (from what I saw on the USB table- http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net/usbtable.html) Most of the post I see here is for version 2.6. Does this mean I'm also using AT76C503A with intersil 3861? Can I use http://at76c503a.berlios.de/ Hope to hear from you soon.
