Linksys WMP11v4.0 on ndiswrapper -- errors during iwconfig setup

Hello all,

So, I have a Linksys WMP11v4.0 wireless card which works fine in Windows.

I copied the Windows drivers and used them to set up ndiswrapper, seeimngly successfully. In other words, running iwconfig shows a new item "wlan0" with all of the wireless info next to it.

Next, my goal is to connect it to my WEP protected network.

I run "iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed" and everything is fine.

I run "iwconfig wlan0 key _______ " where _____ is pretty much any permutation of open, restricted, shared and my 26 hex key or s:[password], etc. Whatever the combination is, I get the following error:

Error for wireless request "Set encode" (8B2A) ;
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

I also get an error if I try to set the SSID by doing:

iwconfig wlan0 essid myssidname

That gives me the following error:

Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) ;
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

The Kernel is 2.6.21, so it should be recent enough for ndiswrapper (which is 1.47). They claim that my Linksys card is supported.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
wingsrule

That error is typically because the driver isn't loaded or properly installed.

1. List the loaded modules with lsmod

2. Remove any competing drivers - bcm43xx

3. Confirm the driver installation with ndiswrapper -l

4. modprobe ndiswrapper if it's not loaded. Post any errors.

5. Bring the interface up before trying the commands with ifconfig wlan0 up
