Laptop, Atheros wifi - problems

I'm running Aurox Live, kernel 2.6.14, on a Fujitsu Siemens -laptop. I tried to scan for and connect to a local, public wireless network using KWifiManager. I press "scan for networks" and get "The scan is complete, but no networks have been found." I doubt the problem is with drivers, because the installation provides a fair amount of them, eg. madwifi, acx100, rtl8xxx. The network does exist, because I can connect to it via windows xp.

The following wifi modules are loaded:

- ath_pci
- ath_rate_sample
- wlan
- ath_hal

iwconfig gives the following:

Quote:
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.
lspci gives the following:

Quote:
00:06.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc.: Unknown device 001a (rev 01)
Does this mean the system can't identify or detect the device? As there is no information of apparent wlan devices (wlan0, ath0, ethx). Where do I go from here? Help would be appreciated.

Try the manufacturers web site; google it. I had a similar situation with my wireless card and I found how to get it working after several months of trying. mine is the Ralink rt2500 which does not come with Fedora 5.

Did you do ifconfig ath0 up before scanning? I always have to do that with mine before I can scan for networks.

Why would I? There's no such device present.
Code:
bash-3.00# ifconfig ath0 ath0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
I tried some windows drivers through ndiswrapper. It says the drivers are installed, though there's no apparent effect.
