I am experiencing difficulties while trying to install the driver for my wireless card.
1. I have downloaded the appropriate driver, I've extracted the tarballs but when I run the ./configure command I get: "bash: ./configure: No such file or directory". The configure file is there so I'm not too sure what I'm doing wrong.
2. When I try run "make" I get this error: "WARNING: kernel build/output directory not found!
You probably need to install the kernel development/header file package! (which matches your currently running kernel)
Kernel version file: /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/build/include/linux/version.h
Kernel configuration file: /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/build/.config
Make damn sure these really match your currently running kernel!!"
Now I dont know how to get this kernel directory setup and where to find the files it's looking for.
Basically you need to install the kernel source code. You can find that either on your Mandrake CD's or at the Mandrake web site. If you don't know what kernel version you are running, check the output of uname -a to find out. Then install the kernel source code that matches.
i get the following output...Linux localhost 2.4.21-0.13mdk #1 Fri Mar 14 15:08:06 EST 2003 i686 unknown unkn
own GNU/Linux
- i cant find this kernel on my cds, what file should i be looking for ?
- i could not find it on the mandrake site either, there only seems to be iso downloads.
Alright i've installed the kernel, I still dont see the folder "Linux" appear in my /usr/src/ directory.
Am I doing something wrong, do I need to do something else ?
I really a good step-by step guide on how to do this.
If you installed the kernel source code, you should see a folder appear. It is usally named linux-2.x.x Where the x.x is replaced by the kernel version number and any added info. So in your case you should see something like linux2.4.21-0.13.
To make the linux folder, you need to create a soft link in the /usr/src directory. Open a console, jump into the /usr/src directory and type
ln -s linux2.x.x linux
Just be sure to replace the linux2.x.x with whatever the real kernel source directory is.
