iwconfig shows no wirless extension

hello!

i'm running my notebook with suse 9.1 and have a texas instruments pcmcia wlan card. yast2 correctly installed the pcmcia card and i could configure the card with the essid and the other wlan things without a problem. now if i'm typing "iwconfig" as su in the console the output is:
#lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
sit0 no wireless extensions.

now i'm some kind of confused...why can i configure the wlan card in yast2 but i doesn't see it in the iwconfig output. ohh...and network through the wlan card...doesn't work either.

does someone know where or what i have to change something?

sincerely xiral

You need to download the wireless extensions. I forgot the website, just google it. You can also upgrade your kernel to 2.6.7 which has the extensions built in.

thank you for your link! but i think my problem has something to do with the firmware and section in craigs tutorial doesn´t help me.

when i type tail -f /var/log/messages and i insert the pcmcia wlan card i recive this output:
Code:
Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: PCI: Enabling device 0000:06:00.0 (0000 -> 0003)
Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:06:00.0 to 64
Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: Found ACX100-based wireless network card, phymem1:0x10c10000, phymem2:0x10c00000, irq:11, mem1:0xd09f9000, mem1_size:4096, mem2:0xd0b4b000, mem2_size:65536 compiled with wireless extensions v16

Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: acx100_reset_mac: enable soft reset...
Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: acx100_reset_mac: disable soft reset and go to init mode...
Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: ERROR: no directory for firmware file specified, ABORTING. Make sure to set module parameter 'firmware_dir'! (specified as absolute path!)
Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: acx100_reset_dev: Failed to upload firmware to the ACX100
Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: acx100_probe_pci: TI acx100_pci: MAC initialize failure!
Jul 24 11:53:53 xemxijo kernel: acx100_pci: probe of 0000:06:00.0 failed with error -5
i highlighted the part, which i think is my problem. now my question is where and how can i tell the kernel to search after the firmware. And my 2nd question is where can i found a standard acx100 firmware, because i doesn´t know the manufactor of the card?

sincerely xiral
