how to make sure vpnc using eth1 rather than eth0

Hi there,

Debian sarge (kernel 2.6.8) installed on IBM X22. vpnc package installed.

The laptop's network card -> eth0. A wireless pcmica card -> eth1.

problem: vpnc can't find vpn service.

with the eth0 up: got response from unknow host XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:500
with the eth0 down: unknow host "vpn.XXX.XXX.XXX"

Whatever eth1 is up or down, same information above.

Same Debian sarge dist, same kernel, same vpnc, same configure file and same vpn sevice on IBM tp600e. No problem.

The difference is tp600e comes without network card. I swarp pcmcia network card and pcmica wireless card. So the network interface is always eth0.

Anyone knows how to

1. check which interface vpnc tried to use?
2. If eth0, how to switch it to eth1 (or wifi0, wireless-tools package is installed)

Thanks

vpnc will use whatever interface is implied through your routing. most likely it will be the one that is your default route to the internet. if you disconnect one interface, connect another then your routes would presumably change, and restarting vpnc would take you via that interface.

Thanks for your reply.

eth1 is not in the route table. The reason might be eth1 is not configured.

It can be showed under
"iwconfig"(command) and "ifconfig eth1"(command),
but not on /etc/network/interfaces nor /etc/network/run/ifstat.

So how to config eth1?

Thanks
