How to get RTL8187 in Master Mode?

Hi,
I have 2 USB WiFi Adapters, one with the RTL8187B chipset, the other with the RTL8187L chipset(it's an ALFA AWUS036H)
I want to set up any one of them as an Access Point, but I don't really know which driver to use and how to do it
When I try this command:
iwconfig wlan0 mode master
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

I've reached this page:
http://wireless.erley.org/stable.html

I managed to install compat-wireless by building it directly from tarball on linuxwireless.org, but I still get an error when running hostapd :/
I tried this with 2.6.31 (with compat-wireless) and 2.6.32, both with the rtl8187 module. On Arch LInux btw.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Here an Ubuntu related example for /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf

# Lose the comment after its line

ssid=MY_SSID
interface=wlan0 # The interface name of the card
driver=hostap # The card driver
macaddr_acl=0
accept_mac_file=/etc/hostapd.accept
deny_mac_file=/etc/hostapd.deny
ieee8021x=1 # Use 802.1X authentication
wep_key_len_broadcast=13
wep_key_len_unicast=13
wep_rekey_period=300 # WEP rekeying interval
own_ip_addr=10.10.10.100 # The interface IP
nas_identifier=some_name
auth_server_addr=127.0.0.1 # Where is the radius server
auth_server_port=1812 # The port the radius server runs on
auth_server_shared_secret=supersecretradiuskey # This is used to authenticate the hostapd to the radius server so none can use your raduis server
acct_server_addr=127.0.0.1 # Where is the radius server
acct_server_port=1813 # Where the accounting port is (I think)
acct_server_shared_secret=supersecretradiuskey # Same as above

Tried that, didnt work. Im pretty sure the problem's not with hostapd but with the driver module itself, as it doesn't show master when running this command:
iw phy phy0 info

Don't bother, I asked one of the guys in the linux-wireless mailing list, it's not yet implemented and wont be for a few kernel versions

Alternatively you can set up your rtl8187 Linux driver in "ad hoc" mode:

Code:
iwconfig wlan0 mode Ad-hoc
and then refer to this guide: "Using your Linux server to create an ad-hoc wireless network" ( h t t p :/ / searchenterpriselinux.techtarget.com / tip / Using-your-Linux-server-to-create-an-ad-hoc-wireless-network )

Also, on Puppy Linux after having your networks "UP" you can install and run the "shareInternet" package: h t t p :/ / www .murga-linux.com / puppy / viewtopic.php?t=37520
It takes on its shoulders the job of configuring the NAT, dhcp, dns. Very cool! Just one click to start / stop the connection sharing.

Hope this helps.

Ciao
