how to detect which networkaddress, gateway, subnet on network without dhcp

Hi all,

I wonder if it is possible to detect what the networkaddress is (for example: 192.168.1.0) and the subnetmask(for example 255.255.255.0) and stuff like that(well those 2 are the most important).

Yesterday we had a connected cable, I plug it in my laptop and see that the device is active and the lights of it shining(so this cable is connected).
But I didn't get an IP address. I tried sudo dhclient without success. It would be great for our next little lan-party to know how I can detect these things. (If this is possible).

Thanks in advance!

Open a Terminal window and enter "/sbin/ip addr" at the prompt.
"inet" line will give you the IP and subnetmask
