help with configuring my WLAN

I have just installed debian on my computer and compiled ndiswrapper for my WLAN card. it worked both in fedora and mandrake only after I have changed the network's essid to "samuel". i'v tried "iwconfig wlan0 essid samuel" but it did not help. can someone tell me which file should I edit and how so that I will be able to use my wireless network?

Version 0.11 of ndiswrapper I suppose?

If you do
Code:
iwconfig wlan0
Does it say essid any/off or essid ""? Then you could try to set it a few times again. I had to do that till some time ago as well.

My other suggestion is upgrading to the last version of wireless tools and see if it works. I'm using SID and it works well. Here's my output:

Quote:
iwconfig Wireless-Tools version 27
Compatible with Wireless Extension v11 to v17.

Kernel Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v16.

wlan0 Recommend Wireless Extension v0 or later,
Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v16.
