Question Force WIFI card to use Hostap driver

Using Kubuntu everything updated etc. I have 2 wireless cards, one Intel 2200bg and a Prism based PCMCIA. I wanted to use the Hostap drivers on the Prism card as some apps that I use require it, but it always shows up as eth2 rather than wlanx. I installed all of the hostap stuff via apt-get, rebooted but it still shows as eth2. Is there anyway to force the Prism card to use hostap without ruining the eth1 Intel setup (as its working really well at the moment)

Thanks,

1. Blacklist the Prism or Orinoco drivers to keep them from loading.

2. Edit /etc/modules.conf to bind the hostap driver to the desired interface as described in this article: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_79_2521.shtm

Why would blacklisting the Prism drivers or binding the HostAP driver to a specific interface mess up the Intel interface?

The linked article and the first related link at the bottom of the page detail how to change the order of the interfaces if you like - eth0 for Intel and eth1 for the other (although if I understood you correctly, the HostAP driver initiates wlan0). Everything will work the same, regardless of what you call it.

Don't know where /etc/modules.conf is located in Ubuntu. In some distros, it's deprecated in favor of separate files in /etc/modprobe.d/ Same syntax, though.
