fedora- newbie and scratching head

well, first time using linux, installed fedora on my laptop. finally got internet up, but i have a wireless card installed in the top, and would really like to understand how to properly install the driver. really need step by step, i think i have the right driver.tar file for the card, but really don't know how to use/compile/build/store, so help would be much appreciative.
