Smile Does anyone know of a laptop card or usb that works with linux

Does anyone know of a laptop card or usb adapter that works with linux "out of the box" or with downloadable linux drivers.
Has anyone used a Ralink USB adapter that claims to have Linux drivers?
I'm trying to run Linux on a fairly low spec laptop ( 500 intel processor 256 ram read only c-d drive).
Love linux but its a pain to have to plug in a usb broadband modem everytime I want to go online.
ndiswrap makes my head hurt, I've tried...................
Many thanks for all the good advice I've gained from this site by the way.
