cant make ndiswrapper because user/src/kernels doesnt exist

Hi All

First post. Hope you can help, Im having some problems getting my wireless card to work.

I use fc5 (build 2.6.18-12239) and have a belkin wireless g card. I have no internet on that pc (due to lack of wireless) so am using a friends laptop & transferring stuff via usb, so I cant use yum.

Ive figured out I need to use ndiswrapper, but on trying to make / make install I get the error:

"
make -C driver
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/seamus/Desktop/ndiswrapper-1.30/driver'
Can't find kernel build files in /lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2239.fc5/build;
give the path to kernel build directory with
KBUILD=<path> argument to make
make[1]: *** [prereq_check] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/seamus/Desktop/ndiswrapper-1.30/driver'
make: *** [all] Error 2
"

So when I look at the build link its broken. The standard solution, ie

"
ln -s /usr/src/kernels/<kernel-version> /lib/modules/<kernel-version>/build
"

doesnt help me because /usr/src/kernels doesnt exist! The only directory in /usr/src/redhat
In an attempt to fix this I downloaded kernel-2.6.18-12239.fc5.src.rpm and installed by
"
rpm =Uvh ...
"

which produced the error
"
warning:group brewbuilder does not exist - using root
warning:user brewbuilder does not exist - using root
"

repeated many times, followed by an apparently sucessful install. However, this did not create a kernels directory, nor did it allow install.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Seamus

you need to have the package kernel-source-2.16.18*.rpm installed. It's not the same as the source code of the kernel (kernel-2.6.18-12239.fc5.src.rpm) that you downloaded.

Where can I find kernel-source-2.6.18-1.2239.fc5.rpm (or any variation of kernel-source-*.rpm appropriate to my kernel)? The Fedora site only has kernel-2.6.18-12239.fc5.src.rpm available for download, and a google and rpmfind search turned up nothing. My problem is essentially identical to seamus's, but was not so easily solved.

Thanks,
Adam
