Question Can seem to connect on new install Ubuntu

I decided to learn linux & get away from Windows so I recently set up a dual boat on my laptop and loaded Ubunto.
Install was perfect.
I then tried to connect to my home network

Open System ® Administration ® Networking.
2. Select the connection you wish to use, then click Properties.
3. Ensure Enable this connection is turned on.
set Configuration to DHCP and click OK.
5. To activate or deactivate network connections, select your connection, then click
Activate/Deactivate.

I did that and included the wep key as network password.
I then went to firefox and cannot access the web

The network is a windows XP network using a linksys router with WEP
I checked hardware compatibility and it says that my broadcom Wi-fi is compatible

Any suggestions or directions to take would be apprciated.

I had the same issue on Suse 10.2 which included a broadcom driver by default
it detected my wireless card and seemed to be setup properly but same as you could not connect
I then installed the windows driver using ndiswrapper and was able to connect without a problem
so you may want to give that a try

search the forums for info on ndiswrapper there are plenty of threads with directions

hope this works for you as well as it did for me

Broadcom wireless card issue

Thank you. After searching the forum I was looking at that possibility. I will try it today. I was puzzled at why a windows driver would work for linux?!

ndiswrapper basically works as a translator for the driver
