Can't enable network interface card in Backtrack 4


Hey guys, I am trying to connect my network interface card in Backtrack 4. But i can't.
I have typed /etc/init.d/networking start but


wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
Bind socket to interface: No such device
Failed to bring up wlan0.

these types of errors are comming.
Please help me.

How did you configure it in your /etc/network/interfaces?

What is the device?

lspci | grep -i wireless
Is the device recognized?
Code:
iwconfig
