Angry Asus Zenbook UX31 Atheros AR9485 Wireless Adaptor

I bought a Asus Zenbook UX31 and immediately replaced Windows 7 with Linux Mint 12 (64 bit). Love the machine and the OS but I get very poor wireless service from the Atheros AR9485 Wireless Adaptor. Are there any Linux drivers I could install? Help! I am a 79 year old relative newbie and Ndis sounds very complex.

Hi Rutu,

I can't answer your question as such as I have only had the Asus UX31E for 2 weeks. How does Mint 12 run on it? Now they have Mint 13. ? Did you have a lot of config stuff to fix to make all the hardware run?

Have you seen this site? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/As...ok#BIOS_Update
Its got a heap of info But most of it is for coders and a normal person or newbie would have no idea how
to implement the stuff.

I can tell you that the networking on the Asus is not the fastest But its a wonderful machine to have. I am running
Ubuntu 12.04 Gnome Desktop at the moment.

Kind regards to ya.

Asus Zenbook wireless reception

Thanks for the response. I replaced MS Windows with Mint 12 and ran it for a couple of weeks. I love the machine but not the wireless connection under Mint so I switched back to Windows 7. That lasted a short while but constant problems and a general distaste for the OS led me to switch back to Linux and in this instnce Ubuntu 12.04. I am very happy with the setup if only I could get better wireless performance. I have an exteral bridge which works adequately and will soldier on in the hope that later iterations of Ubuntu include appropriate drivers. Tally Ho! Rutu.
