Question 802.11 MAC in Redhat 9.0

Hello,

I am working on 802.11 MAC. I wanted to know about its implementation on Redhat Linux (not specific to a particular version).

I have following questions...

1. How is 802.11 MAC is implemented in Linux, particularly Redhat Linux? I mean is it hardwired in the WLAN card or hardwired and software or only software.

2. In above mentioned scenarios of implementation, is there any possibility that I can change the parameters? If yes, how can I do that?

3. Is there any information/tutorials/Opensource available for 802.11 MAC?

Thanks in advance for your help. Please let me know if you want more information.

Regards...

MAC (Media Access Control) is in the card.
This is so vendor can be sure of 802.11* compliance and helps get FCC and similar
licenses.

Whether hardware or hardware/firmware/software varies by card
You can change parameters via sofware from linux host using 'iwconfig'
and possibly 'iwpriv'.

How much is controllable depends on the card and the driver.

Thanks nickI-S for the info.

I am particularly concerned with the accessing the MAC level MIB and some SNMP MIBs for lower level information. SNMP MIBs are again vendor specific and can be accessed using SNMP MIB Browsers.

I am researching the possibilities as you have mentioned.

Thanks again for the reply.

Regards...
