2Wire HomePortal USB connection

Yes, I know that USB is a bad way to connect...but right now, its my only option.

I have a 2Wire HomePortal 1800HG
It is connected to one Windows ME computer with ethernet
One dual boot Fedora Core 3/ Windows ME system with wireless (I got the wireless drivers working in FC3 with ndiswrapper)
A laptop using Windows XP with wireless

I am trying to connect another FC3 computer through USB straight to the router (not the usb adapter to phoneline to router type thing)

On booting the configuration wizard thing recognizes and configures the USB connection to the 2Wire HomePortal and it is recognized in hardware browser. But, what now? I tried installing what I thought were the proper drivers from this site using ndiswrapper. It went well until I tried to modprobe and got "FATAL: Moduel ndiswrapper not found."

-Do I need to use ndiswrapper to install drivers for this device?
-Am I trying to install the wrong drivers?

Thanks,
Matt

Thanks a ton to everyone, without all your help I would still be using Windows *shudders*

i had this problem as well.........

i NEVER found a solution to it, using USB to connect to the was simply something i gave up on.
i have SBC DSL. instead of using the I had to connect the router directly to my modem to get it working.

if you ever find a solution please post it becuase this topic interests me as well.

USB connection

the prob youre having with the usb connection is the usb controllers.. a lot of the older shit wont handle the usb connection.. controllers like the intel ab/eb.. or any of the 7000 series controllers.. dont produce enough power to run the usb connection to the homeportal.. whether youre running straight usb.. or usb wireless... this is a common problem we run into with win98 and miserable edition... i dont know which patches.. but there are d/k's you can get for 98 in me that have the working usb controllers..
